SABR: ANNOUNCES OUR UPCOMING MEETING!

SABR, The Society for Baseball Research, just posted information about our meeting that was previously posted here. Wonderful to be recognized by this great Baseball organization. Here is the reminder and the link. We have over 25 guest who have positvely responded already. Don’t be left out!! Our event is less than two weeks away!

New York Giants Preservation Society meeting (New York, NY)
We are proud to announce that the first New York Giants Preservation Society meeting will take place at 6:30 PM on Thursday, October 25, at the Bergino Baseball Clubhouse, located at the landmark Cast Iron Building, 67 East 11th Street, in downtown Manhattan.

Our inaugural speaker will be esteemed author Joshua Prager. Josh is a prolific writer who is in the final stages of having his new book published, one which talks about his life. Because the meeting takes place in October, Josh will be discussing this and his incredible story about the 1951 Giants, entitled THE ECHOING GREEN, The Untold Story of Bobby Thomson, Ralph Branca and the Shot Heard Round the World. This is truly an unbelievable story that still generates debates, six years after the initial pressing of the book. We are honored that Josh is taking the time out of his busy schedule to join us. Bring your book down and have it signed if you like! Donuts will be served.

We would like to thank Bergino’s CEO/owner [and SABR member] Jay Goldberg for letting us use his beautiful facility. Jay has some wonderful memorabilia to view and purchase. Jay will also be doing a podcast of the event. This is an event any New York Giants fan or baseball fan should attend.

Please RSVP to giantsguru@gmail.com as soon as you can so we have an idea of how many people might be attending. Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Feel free to come early to browse the Clubhouse and chat with fellow NYGPS members.

SPECIAL THANKS!! AUTHOR JEFFREY STUART

Special thanks to author Jeffrey Stuart who has graciously donated some of his books Twilight Teams for our get together on October 25. The book details teams final seasons in cities before they left for greener pastures? Teams include the 1952 Boston Braves, 1953 St. Louis Browns, 1954 Philadelphia A’s, 1957 NY Giants & Brooklyn Dodgers, and 1971 Washington Senators. We have a limited supply and will probably do some sort of giveaway with them. Anyone interested in purchasing one let me know as I am in contact with Mr. Stuart.

MIRACLE BALL, THE MOVIE: TO AIR ON THE VELOCITY CHANNEL

Miracle Ball, The Movie: will be airing the following nights on the Velocity Channel:
September 29,
October 3rd (Wonder why!!), &
October 20th.
Here is a synopsis on the movie.
October 3rd 1951. Giants 3rd baseman Bobby Thomson hit the most dramatic home run in the history of baseball. The moment occurred in the bottom of the ninth inning in a sudden-death playoff game between the New York Giants and their arch rivals from Brooklyn, the Dodgers. People across the nation watched on their new TV sets, and the home run became known as the “Shot Heard ‘Round the World.” But after clearing the left-field wall, the central artifact of the play – the ball itself – inexplicably went missing. The mystery of what happened to that legendary baseball has remained unsolved fora half century. Until now.

MELKY CABRERA: THANKS FOR NOTHING

I know this is a NY Giants site but sheesh!! Many of us put our hearts and minds into the season only to have it thrown in our faces by a player only concerned with himself. Shame on him for duping us. When he is eligible to come back, Giants should show some moxie and simply release him. How anybody would want to sign him next year at a reduced rate is crazy. Let him walk, he walked out on us, so see ya. If they make playoffs, he is not on my roster for what he has done to the fans, his teammates, and the organization. While we are at it, who wants Mota back, another cheat. Release him. He is nothing but a journeyman, why fans crave his return is beyond me. What a disgrace!-Gary

COOPERSTOWN 2012

Spent the weekend in Cooperstown. There are so many photos, artifacts, momentos from both the NY Giants & SF Giants. If you haven’t done so, put the MLB HALL OF FAME on your “Bucket List”. I have downloaded 5o pictures having to do with the NY Giants. Just hit PHOTOS on the tool bar, sign into the Yahoo Group and then click on Photos.-Gary

THE HALL OF FAME NY GIANTS

With Hall of Fame Induction Weekend at Cooperstown, NY, less than 2 weeks away, we at the NYGPS thought it would be a great idea to list the 45 NY Giants who have been enshrined into the Baseball Hall of Fame.  They are listed alphabetically with the year of their induction: Some of the players were mainstays of the team, while others had the proverbial “cup of coffee” with the club. Please also go to the Photo page as well to check out the plaques that reside in Cooperstown of these legendary players.-Gary
