WORLD SERIES TROPHY HEADING OUR WAY!!!

NOW ENJOYING CONTINUAL SUCCESS, THE GIANTS WILL HONOR THEIR ROOTS
By DAVID WALDSTEIN (FROM THE NYTIMES)

DETROIT — It has become Mike Murphy’s new biennial tradition. When the Giants win the World Series, he immediately calls Willie Mays. And then he calls his wife.
The Giants’ celebration of winning the World Series, as in 2010, will spill into New York, where the franchise played until 1958.
It’s understandable. Murphy, the Giants’ avuncular equipment manager, and Mays share a deep friendship. It goes all the way back to Murphy’s first day with the team as the Giants’ bat boy in 1958, the year the club moved to San Francisco from New York.
In 2010, when the Giants won their first World Series as a Bay Area team, Murphy did the same thing as he did Sunday night. And the Giants as a team are basically sticking to their script, too. After they won in 2010, they paid homage to their New York roots by sending Mays, the star catcher Buster Posey and the championship trophy to Manhattan for what amounted to a sentimental victory tour of the city.
And now they’re going to do it again. “We’re bringing it back,” exclaimed Giants General Manager Brian Sabean amid the euphoric celebration here Sunday night after his team won Game 4 to sweep the Tigers. “Tell everyone in New York to get ready, because we’re coming with it.”

FIRST MEETING:HUGE SUCCESS!!!

Joshua Prager, Gary, Jay Goldberg, Steve

Jay Goldberg, Owner Berginos Clubhouse

Joshua Prager, Author of The Echoing Green

Thursday October 25 was a memorable day for all Giants Fans indeed. Not only did the SF Giants win Game 2 of the World Series, but the NY Giants Preservation Society had its inaugural meeting at Berginos Baseball Clubhouse at 67 East 11th Street in the West Village of NYC.
Jay Goldberg, the owner of Berginos welcomed over 35 people into the fold. The meeting started with Gary Mintz talking about the Society and its goals and he continued to talk about some of the ground rules for the evening. Steve Rothschild spoke briefly about the June 26 Tribute to the NY Giants Night at ATT Park. He included many of the contacts both he and Gary have encountered and are now on board.
After a few words by Jay Goldberg, the feature speaker of the night came on, Joshua Prager who wrote for the Wall Street Journal and authored that amazing book The Echoing Green. Prager spoke for about 40 minutes. He first explained what and where the Echoing Green title came from and then proceeded to read from his personal diary explaining the amazing story of the NY Giants in 1951 with the sign stealing scheme and the principle characters involved. Prager spent 6 years researching and writing this book. The assembled crowd at Berginos then went into a Q/A Period which could have gone on all night.
The meeting was then turned over to FOX TV where a handful of the faithful watched the entire World Series Game 2.
Thanks to Steve Rothschild’s stumping trivia questions and to Josh and Jay for making this initial meeting one we will never forget. Finally thanks to all members who attended!! See you in January!!

New York Giants Preservation Society meeting (New York, NY)
We are proud to announce that the first New York Giants Preservation Society meeting will take place at 6:30 PM on Thursday, October 25, at the Bergino Baseball Clubhouse, located at the landmark Cast Iron Building, 67 East 11th Street, in downtown Manhattan.

Our inaugural speaker will be esteemed author Joshua Prager. Josh is a prolific writer who is in the final stages of having his new book published, one which talks about his life. Because the meeting takes place in October, Josh will be discussing this and his incredible story about the 1951 Giants, entitled THE ECHOING GREEN, The Untold Story of Bobby Thomson, Ralph Branca and the Shot Heard Round the World. This is truly an unbelievable story that still generates debates, six years after the initial pressing of the book. We are honored that Josh is taking the time out of his busy schedule to join us. Bring your book down and have it signed if you like! Donuts will be served.

We would like to thank Bergino’s CEO/owner [and SABR member] Jay Goldberg for letting us use his beautiful facility. Jay has some wonderful memorabilia to view and purchase. Jay will also be doing a podcast of the event. This is an event any New York Giants fan or baseball fan should attend.

Please RSVP to giantsguru@gmail.com as soon as you can so we have an idea of how many people might be attending. Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Feel free to come early to browse the Clubhouse and chat with fellow NYGPS members.
